As the daughter of Cecille Estioko Hernandez, a pioneer of Filipino Folk Arts education in Canada, Catherine Hernandez (Collective Member/Performer/Artistic Director, Sulong Theatre) is dedicated to the development of the Filipino-Canadian artistic community. Her first play, Singkil, was produced by [http://asiancanadianwiki.org/wiki/Fu-GEN fu-GEN Asian Canadian Theatre Company] in association with Factory Theatre and garnered seven Dora Mavor Moore nominations including Outstanding New Play, Independent Division. She is working/has worked in one capacity or another with [http://asiancanadianwiki.org/wiki/Carlos_Bulosan_Theatre Carlos Bulosan Theatre], Native Earth Performing Arts, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Aluna Theatre and numerous others.
