Chiu is currently China correspondent for Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa), Germany's leading international news agency. She previously worked as a staff reporter at the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong and as a contributor for The Economist and The Associated Press in Hong Kong. She is also continuing her work as a freelance writer while in Beijing Joanna's coverage of China and East Asia appears in The Economist, The Atlantic, GlobalPost, Al Jazeera America, The Daily Beast, The Nation, Glammonitor.com, BBC World Service and other outlets. As a columnist for Canada's top feminist news magazine, Herizons, she provides her perspective on Canadian politics and international women's issues in each quarterly issue. As the founder of WAM! (Women, Action & the Media) Vancouver chapter, Joanna works to connect media makers and interest groups across Canada to advance women's media participation, ownership and representation.
