Born in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thetford_Mines Thetford Mines], [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec Quebec], of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenia Armenia]n descent, he received a Bachelor of Arts from [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishop's_University Bishop's University] and an L.L.L from [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Université_Laval Université Laval].

He was summoned to the Senate in 2000 on the advice of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Chrétien Jean Chrétien] and represented the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/senatorial_division senatorial division] of The Laurentides, Quebec. He was a member of the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal_Party_of_Canada Liberal] caucus and retired at the age of 75 in 2003.

He is married to Yvette and has four children.
