The company is made up of three emerging contemporary artists: Natalie Tin Yin Gan, Remy Siu, and [[Milton Lim]]. The three met as students at Simon Fraser University’s School for the Contemporary Arts and have been consistently creating and producing work since 2011 when the company was formed. ---- '''Mission''' Hong Kong Exile is committed to creating vital and innovative art through collaborative, interdisciplinary investigation. '''Values''' - Active engagement with local and international arts communities - Ambitious and rigorous treatment of challenging artistic and political questions - Investigation of cultural politics in an era of globalization, and inclusion of under-represented experiences and identities - Exploration outside of the formal and aesthetic traditions of dance, theatre, new music, multimedia - Pushing the boundaries of interdisciplinary process and creation '''Vision''' Hong Kong Exile aims to contribute to a thriving, diverse and critical arts community. Through work that provokes discourse and new perspectives, we advocate for arts’ importance and its relevance in society. We are passionate about creating local, national and international partnerships. We look forward to developing a body of internationally-tourable repertoire. ---- '''Company History''' Hong Kong Exile is proud to have developed a reputation as an engaged, rigorous and prolific emerging arts company since the time of its inception. Since 2011, we have created thirteen original works presented in dance, theatre, film/media and New Music Festivals in Vancouver, Victoria, Toronto, and Seattle. In 2012, Hong Kong Exile was awarded an inaugural five-month residency at New Westminster’s River Market. This gave us the momentum to produce the sold-out festival, ASCENSION, a showcase of six new music composers pairing with six choreographers. In 2013, Hong Kong Exile was featured in Hive: NEW BEES 3, a showcase of the city’s most prolific emerging contemporary performance bodies. Hong Kong Exile premiered a new work at the CanAsian Kickstart Festival in Toronto in 2014, marking the company’s first out-of-province tour. Projects over the last two years include an ambitious month-long gallery exhibition, presentations at CanAsian International Dance Festival, Seattle International Dance Festival, Dancing on the Edge Festival, and Gateway Pacific Theatre Festival, as well as a handful of ongoing collaborative initiatives. Present Hong Kong Exile projects reflect our company’s commitment to exploring multi-media innovation and integration with live performance. Since 2015, members of HKX have been part of the Gold Saucer Studio, an independently run studio, rehearsal, and venue space. We are young, emerging artists creating a space for ourselves and others. The members of Hong Kong Exile are currently embarking on a two-year residency with the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival (2017/2018).
