After high school, he attended the Vancouver School of Art (which is now known as Emily Carr University of Art + Design) from 1975-1981, majoring in photography and design from 1975-1981. He began working at Canada Post as a letter-carrier in 1975, a position which he would hold until his retirement in 2013.
