The Vancouver Cantonese Opera is a non-profit organization that seeks to present high level Cantonese opera before Chinese and non-Chinese audiences in Canada and hopes to cultivate an appreciation for its unique and vibrant aesthetic.

Originally started by Rosa Cheng (now artistic director of the VCO) in the 1990s as Friends of Cantonese Opera, the group was then incorporated June 30th, 2000 as the Vancouver Cantonese Opera. As an established group, the VCO put on two large scale productions in Vancouver and Burnaby every year, as well as participates in all manner of other activities such as singing lessons, workshops, seminars and multicultural events.[1]
