J F Garrard is a Chinese Canadian editor, novelist, writer of speculative fiction and founder of Dark Helix Press, an indie publisher that specializes in multicultural fantasy, science fiction, and “raw non-fiction.” She is interested in increasing awareness of diversity issues and breaking down cultural stereotypes through her dark stories. Garrard was born in Toronto and earned a bachelor degree in Nuclear medicine (University of Toronto) prior to earning an MBA in Marketing and Strategy at York University. She is currently working on a Creative Writing certificate from Ryerson University.

Garrard currently serves as the Co-President of the Canadian Authors Association's Toronto Branch, Deputy Editor for Ricepaper Magazine, Editor in chief for the Dark Helix Ezine, and Assistant Editor for Amazing Stories Magazine. For the Asian Canadian Writers' Workshop she works as a Festival Coordinator for the annual LiterASIAN Toronto, an extension of the existing LiterASIAN festival in Vancouver which celebrates the best in Asian Canadian arts. She organizes many events for writers and editors on behalf of both the Canadian Authors Association and Asian Canadian Writers' Workshop.
