Beats from the East is a weekly radio program that is currently broadcast on Concordia University's radio station, CJLO 1690AM in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The host of this music show, DJ Mister Vee, plays original music created by artists from East-Asian communities worldwide. The show focuses on original English language music from underground/independent Asian American and Canadian Hip Hop and R&B talent but also plays music from East-Asia in languages such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog and Vietnamese.
Many artists have been interviewed on the show. Notable Asian American interview guests include Kev Nish (Far East Movement), Paul Kim (American Idol), Magnetic North and Megan Lee while notable Asian Canadian guests include TL Truong (Blueprint Cru), Mikey Bustos (Canadian Idol), Kish and Terry He. Mister Vee has also interviewed other public figures outside of music like blogger Phil Yu (angryasianman) and Martin Wong (Giant Robot magazine).
Episodes of the radio show are also available in podcast format with the latest episode being made available within a few days after the live broadcast.
