During the 2010 Olympics, she almost wasn't able to compete because sports Canada pulled her funding after they stated "that she had not shown the necessary improvement to receive an $18,000 stipend"  because of a knee injury suffered in 2007.  Kin's Farm Market, a local grocery chain decided to help raise the necessary funds and began to sell reusable bags with Loo’s face on them for a $1 each.  The fund raising endeavour was a success raising a total of $20 000 and allowing Alexa to compete in the Vancouver Olympics.  Loo placed 12th in the parallel giant slalom, the best ever Olympic showing by a Canadian in the event [http://www.nwasianweekly.com/2010/03/canadian-grocers-help-olympian-realize-her-dreams/]
