Lian D. Chan is an educator, entrepreneur, and writer. She also has experience in film production, editing and facilitating/producing. She is currently the Chief Assistant at Toronto Davisville Kumon Learning Centre. [1]

Lian holds a Bachelor of Arts, 2004 with a major in Strategic Communication (Public Relations) and Ethnic Communities (Asian and First Nations) from the University of Washington, Seattle. [2] She has an Associate in Arts and Sciences 2002 from Shoreline Community College, Shoreline, WA [3] where she was on the SCC Honor's List in 2001.

At Western Washington University, Bellingham, WA, Lian completed a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), 2005. [4] She also attended George Brown College, Toronto for a Certificate in Event and Meeting Management, Digital Imaging and Publishing. [5]

Teaching

From September, 2008 to December, 2011, Lian Chan was a Teaching Assistant at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Oshawa, Ontario. [6]

As a Teaching Assistant: Instructional, she taught classroom tutorials to 2 classes of 35 students each in a Television course and classroom tutorials to 3 classes of 40 students each in the first year course, Foundations of Academic Learning and Success, Faculty of Social Science and Humanities (FSSH).

In the Faculty of Criminology, Justice and Policy Studies (FCJPS), she taught classroom tutorials to 3 classes of 35 students each in a Television course. Lian also taught classroom tutorials to 2 classes of 30 each to first year students in Technical Communication (required for business and engineering students) in the Faculty of Education.

As a Teaching Assistant: Marking in the Faculty of Business and Information Technology, Lian was responsible for two semester of Cybercrime. In FSSH, she was engaged in Intercultural Communication. She also was a Teaching Assistant in Business Communication and Human Development in Communication, FCJPS.

Lian Chan has worked as a Tutor in the After - 4 Program at Woodgreen Community Centre, Toronto [7] the Leading To Read Program at the Toronto Public Library, Pape/Danforth. [8]

As an ESL teacher at Hsin Dong Junior School, Hsin-ying, Tainan County, Taiwan, she taught Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced levels of Conversational English in the 7th, 8th and 9th grades.

Chan also taught ESL in Seattle at the Secondary Bilingual Orientation Center, [9] the Asian Counseling and Referral Services, [10] and the Chinese Information and Service Center.[11]

Media Experience

Lian was a Production and Film Editor Assistant and Facilitator and Producer at Ginger Post Inc., Toronto, Ontario where she edit raw footage into film stories. Her final products included Gordon Hirabayashi Recreation Site [12] and Cangyan Shan and Princess Nanyang [13]

Chan has worked as a Communication and Marketing Manager at Ginger Post, online magazine. [14] Toronto. She was a Program Assistant at University of Ontario Institute of Technology in its Chinese University of Hong Kong Summer Program.

She was a Marketing Consultant for Jiao Jiao Importers, Toronto, [15] a Public Relations Assistant at Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival, [16] a Production Assistant for Lindca Enterprises Inc, Seattle, Vancouver, and a Public Relations Intern at the Chinese Information and Service Center, Seattle. [17]

Research

Lian was a Research Assistant at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology where she was responsible for knowledge and informational research for a Second Life Project [18] on Intercultural Communication and China. This was IBM funded.

She was also a Research Assistant for Professor Kathleen Fearn-Banks [19] at the University of Washington where she was responsible for knowledge and informational research regarding a project on African American entertainers. [20]
