Khadija Baker is a multidisciplinary artist who creates installations that combine video, digital art, sound and animation. Her work explores social and political themes related persecution, displacement and memory. Having worked with a variety of media such as painting, fibers, and video/moving images, her current research combines these practices to create intimate site-specific sculptural installation environments that engage the senses (sight, sound, and touch.) Her work breaches the divide between artist, art and public, creating an active space of participation, exchange, understanding and storytelling. | Khadija Baker is a multidisciplinary artist who creates installations that combine video, digital art, sound and animation. Born in Wuhan, raised in Vancouver, and currently living in Montreal, Sam is a student at McGill University pursuing a double major in Biology and English Literature. Along with many friends and helpers, he co-founded Yellow Noise Magazine in response to the dearth of Asian representation in the media. After having struggled against the model-minority myth all throughout high school, he discovered that there were actually many Asian people working on interesting artistic projects and much needed political activism. He decided to create a platform to shine a spotlight on those who are actively engaged in artistic and activist communities. He hopes that through this platform, young artists and activists of Asian descent can not only express themselves but also find role models who look like them and face the same struggles. | Born in Wuhan, raised in Vancouver, and currently living in Montreal, Sam is a student at McGill University pursuing a double major in Biology and English Literature. | |||
