This “tough, tantalizing” city inspired Bombay Wali and other stories (Guernica Editions, 2013). Veena came to Canada for the first time on a journalism fellowship, returning to do a Masters. After immigrating here, she worked for non-profits. Her novel, Land for Fatimah (Guernica, 2018), is partly inspired by the two years she spent working in Tanzania. She received a grant from the Quebec Arts Council to write this novel. Veena has published in anthologies and literary magazines, read widely from her work and received other grants. She enjoys doing freelance journalism with a focus on the arts in Montreal. Veena also gives Indian, vegetarian, cooking classes on and off line. She is currently (2020) working on a manuscript entitled Annapurna's Bounty, Indian Food Legends and Recipes, funded by Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and marketing a manuscript entitled The Artichoke, Sensuous Stories.
