Veena Gokhale started her career as a print journalist in India. She came to Canada as Distinguished Visiting Journalist at the University of Western Ontario in 1992, returning two years later to do a Masters. She immigrated and worked in communications for non-profit organizations. Guernica Editions, Toronto, published her short story collection - Bombay Wali and other stories - in 2013. She has published fiction and poetry in anthologies and literary magazines and also read from her work. In 2011, she received a grant from Vivacité Montreal, Quebec Arts Council, to write her first novel. She is currently (February 2013) marketing that book. She is involved with Accès Asie and the Shambhala Buddhist Centre in Montreal. She went to Tanzania with CUSO International, an international development organization, and has also volunteered with them.
