She is a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada Canadian] citizen by immigration, where [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada Canada] became a new homeland for her and her family running from the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_war Civil war] in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebanon Lebanon], her birth country, a homeland her grandparents had found refuge in as children fleeing their own motherland [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/_Western_Armenia  Western Armenia] as a result of the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide Armenian Genocide] of 1915 where 1.5 million Armenians of the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Cilicia Kingdom of Cilicia] were brutally massacred in the hands of Ottoman Turks between 1915-1918 in what are known as the occupied lands of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/_Western_Armenia  Western Armenia]. Today Turks claim those lands as part of modern Turkey, although the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/treaty_of_Sevres treaty of Sevres] states otherwise.
