Adrienne S. Chan was born in Victoria, B.C. There she obtained a BA in Psychology at the University of Victoria. She has stayed close to the West coast of BC most of her life – later obtaining an MSW from the University of British Columbia. She worked as a social worker and then for the past 20 years has worked in higher education. She obtained a PhD at the University of Kent at Canterbury, UK. This was followed by Postdoctoral studies at the University of British Columbia at the Centre for Higher Education and Training, Department of Educational Studies. | Adrienne S. Adrienne’s primary research interest over the last fifteen years has focused on higher education, institutional change, institutional culture, academic culture, policy studies, and issues of diversity in educational institutions. She is particularly interested in institutional behaviour, the role of policy, the role of committees, and the relationship between human agency and power relations within institutions. Throughout this time period, she have presented at numerous conferences, published reports, a book, and peer reviewed journal articles. Her work in the last eight years has focused on social justice in higher education. Adrienne teaches courses in research methods, anti-oppressive practice, child welfare, and theory and ethics. She has a long term interest in issues of equity, diversity, race and anti-racism.
