He has over 30 years of working experience in employment equity, human rights, ethnic/race relations, and diversity. He has done extensive research work on diversity for George Brown College and, as a consultant who worked with the Trinity Group (a team of multinational companies and the federal government) that had developed a measuring tool for diversity progress. He developed an employment equity training module for HRSDC, trained HRSDC staff on employment equity and staff of the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on systemic discrimination, and conducted extensive focus groups and interviews for Cadillac Fairview, Cathay Pacific, GlaxoSmithKline, and the Canadian Cancer Society. In addition to a Ph.D. in sociology from Carleton University, Bobby Siu holds an M.A. from the University of Western Ontario and a B.A. from Trent University. He is a McLaughlin Fellow at York University, and is the Associate Editor of the ''Journal of Public Policy, Administration, and Law.'' Siu has 16 years of extensive policy development/analysis and public management experience at the Government of Ontario with portfolios in international education, human rights, race relations, employment equity and skills development. He was the Provincial Chair of the Federal-Provincial Committee on Employment Equity, a former manager (Policy and Research) at the Ontario Human Rights Commission and a former Manager (Regulations Development) and Director (Compliance) at the Ontario Employment Equity Commission. Bobby has been a management consultant for 15 years with specialization in diversity/equity management and marketing research. Projects included strategic and operational planning, public and organizational surveys, policy analysis, program evaluation, procedural reviews, employee and customer interviews and focus groups, statistical data analysis, management training and facilitation, and community consultations. His clients spread across the private, public and non-profit sectors. Dr. Siu has taught at Queen's University, University of Western Ontario, York University, McMaster University and Ryerson University, published articles in professional, academic and business journals, and presented on diversity and immigration issues. At Ryerson University, Siu has taught “Public Policy,” “Introductory Sociology,” “Race and Ethnicity in Canada,” and “Racism in Canada.” At other universities, he has taught additional undergraduate and graduate courses in public management; equity policy administration and law; program evaluation and policy analysis; sociology of conflict, social stratification, sociology of knowledge, industrialization and development; socio-economic development; race and ethnic relations; political sociology, and social movements. He was also a guest lecturer on public policy and education and marketing research. Dr. Siu has been involved extensively in numerous professional and business associations as well as community organizations/agencies. As a result of his voluntary work, he received the Newcomers Settlement Volunteer Award from the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration in 2006. Currently, he sits on the Historical Houses and Museums Board of the City of Toronto and is a member of the Strategic Capabilities Network and Marketing Research and Intelligence Association. Siu is the author of several books and a number of articles in the area of labour force, social movements, immigration, diversity and equity issues.
